In 2014/2015 Louie took a sabbatical to study the motivations and barriers facing the Aboriginal learner with a view to developing recruitment and retention strategies for Aboriginal Students of Business programs. He believes that there is potential that is not being realized, and more frequent and proper intervention could produce better educational outcomes for these students.

Louie enjoys time with his family and friends at his cottage on Manitoulin Island.
